28 January - 1 February 2008, Obergurgl, Austria

This year the GLACIODYN workshop on the dynamics and mass budget of Arctic glaciers will take place in the Universitätszentrum Obergurgl, Austria, 28 January - 1 February 2008.
The purpose of this workshop is:
(i) to present and discuss new results on observations and modelling of the dynamics and mass budget of Arctic glaciers (including the Greenland ice sheet),
(ii) to plan and coordinate field work on Arctic glaciers with the aim of using the available infrastructure and logistics in the most efficient way,
(iii) to develop ideas for future projects and collaboration.

The preliminary programme can be downloaded HERE

Participation is open to everyone and there is no registration fee. For planning purposes registration is required (deadline: 21 December 2007). Contributions are welcomed in the form of short talks or posters. Presentations will be 15-20 minutes in length. For those who bring a poster, there is time reserved in the program to give a short 2-3 minute introduction to the poster.

Extended abstracts of the contributions will be printed and distributed after the meeting. Deadline for the extended abstracts is 2 March 2008. This abstract, preferably a word file of 1 to 3 pages, may contain a table and one or two (colour) graphs/pictures.

Financial support: Limited support is available to enable young scientists to participate in the workshop. If you are interested in this please send an application to J.O. Hagen (j.o.m.hagen@geo.uio.no). The application should have your name, affiliation, age, supervisor, and a short description of your research project (5 lines). Please indicate the approximate amount of money you would need for travel and/or lodging. Reimbursement will be after the meeting.

The meeting is sponsored by Utrecht University.

Housing for the participants is provided by the UniversitŠtszentrum Obergurgl (http://www.universitycenter-obergurgl.at/) in either double or single rooms based on demi-pension. Workshop on the dynamics and mass budget of Arctic glaciers / GLACIODYN (IPY) meeting

15-17 January 2007, Pontresina, Switzerland

Each year the Working Group on Arctic Glaciology of IASC (International Arctic Science Committee) organises a workshop on the dynamics and mass budget of Arctic glaciers, in conjunction with the annual meeting of the national representatives in this Working Group. The Working Group is now also in charge of coordinating GLACIODYN, which is an IPY lead project studying the sensitivity of Arctic glaciers to climate warming.

The next workshop/GLACIODYN meeting will be held in Pontresina, Switzerland, 15-17 January 2007. There will be a two-day plenary session with presentations and posters (15-16 January). The 17th is reserved for workshops and planning meetings. On the 18th an excursion will be organised to the nearby Morteratschgletscher, which has been a target for glaciological research for many years.

The preliminary programme including a list of participants can be downloaded HERE

Participation is open to everyone interested in the dynamics of Arctic glaciers and there is no registration fee. Presentations are 20 minutes in length. For the presentations an Apple laptop, a computer projector and overhead projector will be available. If you wish to use the laptop please bring your presentation on a cd or usb-stick.ĘIf you need other equipment let us know. For those who bring a poster, there is time reserved in the program for you to give a short 2-3 minute introduction to your poster. Extended abstracts will be published in the usual way (see publications). The meeting is sponsored by Utrecht University, the Netherlands IPY Committee and IASC

Extended abstracts of the contributions will be printed and distributed after the meeting. Deadline for the extended abstracts is 25 February 2007. This abstract, preferably a word file of 1 to 3 pages, may contain a table and one or two (colour) graphs/pictures.

Financial support: Limited support is available to enable young scientists to participate in the workshop. If you are interested in this please send an application to J. Oerlemans by email (j.oerlemans @ phys.uu.nl). The application should have your name, affiliation, age, supervisor, and a short description of your research project (5 lines). Please indicate the approximate amount of money you would need for travel and/or lodging. The final decision is made by the IASC Bureau. Reimbursement will be after the meeting.

Location and accommodation:
The meeting will take place in the Rondo convention centre in Pontresina.

Workshop on the mass budget of Arctic glaciers, Obergurgl, Austria

30 January - 3 February 2006

Each year the Working Group on Arctic Glaciology of IASC (International Arctic Science Committee) organises a workshop on the mass budget of Arctic glaciers, in conjunction with the annual meeting of the national representatives in this Working Group. This year the workshop will also host the first planning meeting of GLACIODYN (IPY).

(i) to present and discuss new results on observations and modelling of the mass budget of Arctic glaciers (incl. the Greenland ice sheet). This concerns ALL processes that, in one way or another, effect the geometry and/or volume of arctic glaciers, now, in the past, or in the future. It includes calving, decays of ice tongues, hydraulics and sliding, reconstruction of accumulation from ice cores, etc.,
(ii) to plan and coordinate field work on Arctic glaciers with the aim of using the available infrastructure/logistics in the most efficient way,
(iii) to develop ideas for future projects and collaboration.

Workshop on the mass budget of Arctic glaciers, Pontresina, Switzerland

13-15 January 2005

Each year the Working Group on Arctic Glaciology of IASC (International Arctic Science Committee) organises a workshop on the mass budget of Arctic glaciers, in conjunction with the annual meeting of the national representatives in this Working Group. In 2004 the workshop was not organised, because of the Symposium on Arctic Glaciology in Geilo (which was co-sponsored by IASC).
However, in line with the tradition in 2005 another workshop will be held. It will take place in the Rondo convention centre in Pontresina (Switzerland, close to Sankt Moritz), 13-15 January 2005. http://www.pontresina.com/

The purpose of the workshop is:
(i) to present and discuss new results on observations and modelling of the mass budget of Arctic glaciers (incl. the Greenland ice sheet),
(ii) to plan and coordinate field work on Arctic glaciers with the aim of using the available infrastructure/logistics in the most efficient way,
(iii) to develop ideas for future projects and collaboration.

Participation is open to everyone, but for planning purposes registration is required (deadline: 20 December 2004). Contributions are welcomed in the form of short talks (15 minutes) or posters. Please send an extended abstract (preferably as a word file) of 1 to 3 pages. This abstract may contain a table and one or two (colour) graphs/pictures. The abstracts will be printed and distributed.
There are plenty of hotels in Pontresina which shouldn't be too full during the period of the workshop (low season). For those that want to book early: the Sporthotel offers good value for money and if you mention that you are participating in the "glaciological conference" you will get a 10% discount if you pay cash.
