The purpose of the meeting is:
(i) to present and discuss new results on observations and modelling of the dynamics and mass budget of Arctic glaciers (including the Greenland ice sheet),
(ii) to plan and coordinate field work on Arctic glaciers with the aim of using the available infrastructure and logistics in the most efficient way,
(iii) to develop ideas for future projects and collaboration.
Participation is open to everyone, though numbers may be capped because of limitations on the size of the meeting facilities. For planning purposes registration is required (deadline: 18 December 2008 though earlier registration is advised). There may be a small registration fee. Contributions are welcomed in the form of short talks or posters. Presentations will be 15-20 minutes in length. For those who bring a poster, there will be time reserved in the program to give a short 2-3 minute introduction to the poster. 2.5 full days of talks and poster presentations are planned.
Abstracts: Those intending to attend the meeting should submit abstracts (maximum length 300 words) by email to martin.sharp@ualberta.ca no later than September 10, 2008. Abstracts should indicate whether an oral or poster presentation is preferred. Early submission is requested so that we can develop a draft program to support applications for funding for the meeting that we hope will prevent us having to charge a registration fee. Those submitting abstracts should indicate whether they intend to stay at BGI during the meeting.

More luxurious (and more expensive) hotel accommodation is available nearby in Kananaskis Village (http://www.deltalodge.albertanetwork.com/). Those intending to stay in Kananaskis Village should make their own arrangements for accommodation.
Location: The Barrier Lake station is located a short distance from the Nakiska ski hill (site of the 1988 Olympic downhill) and within an hour of the Banff ski resorts of Sunshine and Mount Norquay. Kananaskis Country offers extensive cross country ski trails and opportunities for back-country skiing.Travel information: The Barrier Lake Station is located about a one-hour drive west of Calgary (nearest airport). There is no public transport to the station so attendees may need to arrange to rent a car to get to the station Ð this will also facilitate access to ski hills etc. If those attending can let us know their flight schedules we can assist with arranging groups to share rental costs. Alternatively, if there is sufficient demand we may be able to arrange for a bus to transport participants from Calgary airport to the station and back (on 15 and 20 February). Please inform Martin Sharp as soon as possible if you would like to use bus transport.
